Rita Pyke’s team managed to hold off the visitors led by Bev Morrison by one shot in the closest match of the day.
Colleen Wilkinson got Chalambar on the board with a win against Ellen Werry to prevent Stawell from winning all three rinks.
The result leaves Stawell in top spot with a lead of eight points ahead of Stawell Golf and 42 points ahead of fourth-placed Lake Bolac.
The visitors moved up to sixth position, one point behind Ararat who put in a strong performance against Ararat V.R.I. Green.
A 15-shot margin for Marg Robertson’s team in the first rink put the visitors in front but V.R.I.’s Irene Helmich got her team back into it when her group got the win in the second rink.
Ararat went on to win the third rink to claim 10 of the 12 available points on offer with the 75 shots to 60 victory.
Stawell Golf all but locked in a finals spot after the team gathered 11 of a possible 12 points against Lake Bolac in the round 11 clash.
Dawn Blackman and Judy Veale’s teams were tied at the end of the match 22 shots each to split the points.
Dulcie Molan’s group easily accounted for Judy Aldous’ team with a dominant 36 shots to seven win to put pressure on the final rink.
Lake Bolac were unable to overcome the deficit, as Stawell Golf went on to record a 75 shots to 45 victory to remain in second spot on the ladder.
In the final match of the round, Ararat V.R.I. Red accounted for Aradale 86 shots to 51.
Di Taylor’s rink set up the win with a 22-shot victory against Barb Panther’s group with Aradale unable to claw back the shot deficit with Sharolyn Rattray the only V.R.I. player to drop a rink, losing by two shots.
Round 12 action should provide plenty of answers in the lead up to finals with only a handful of teams remaining in contention.
Fourth-placed Lake Bolac will have a tough battle on the green when it hosts Ararat V.R.I. Red in a bid to keep in touch with the other finals contenders.
The winner of the match will guarantee itself a spot in the finals.
Ararat will face Aradale on its home green with a win set to lock the team into finals if successful.
Stawell will go in as heavy favourites to win the clash against Ararat V.R.I. Green while Chalambar will face a tough battle on its home deck when it faces Stawell Golf to finish off the round’s matches.
With only three matches remaining, it is getting to the business end of the season with the two Stawell teams looking like the ones to beat.
Warm conditions are expected with a forecast top of 27 in Ararat on Monday afternoon.
