Northern Grampians police service area launched its Eyewatch Facebook page on Tuesday.
The area comprises Northern Grampians, Ararat, and Yarriambiack municipalities.
Northern Grampians Inspector Paul Bertoncello said the page was a great opportunity to engage with the community.
He said it would include regular posts about safety and crime.
“The page will help with crime prevention in the region,” he said.
Mr Bertoncello said the Northern Grampians police service area had a population of 33,010 people and spanned more than 17,000 square kilometres.
“We cover an area that stretches from Lake Bolac in the south to Speed in the north,” he said.
“Our police service area is bigger than 100 countries on the planet and with about 90 police, we need to do what we can to work with the community.”
Inspector Bertoncello said he hoped the page would give people an insight into what policing was all about.
“There will be a bit of humour as well because that’s my take on the world,” he said. “We will also post regular photos of things such as people wanted on warrants, our view from the office, and safety messages.
“There will be a regular array of themes that will be posted, plus any emergency information.
“We will do what we can to assist other emergency services get messages out as well.”
Mr Bertoncello encouraged people to follow the page.
“We want people to like our page, share it with their friends and let us know what they need,” he said.
“In the next few days we should have some good photos of the Halls Gap rescue, which will hopefully give people a good insight into what we do.”
Mr Bertoncello said Eyewatch Facebook pages had already been rolled out to 38 areas across the state.
Horsham police service area launched its Eyewatch page in 2016.
