“I found out my results on Friday, the same time that everyone else did,” she said.
“My ATAR was 77.3.”
Shakira’s family had to wait until they picked her up from the airport on Monday to hear the good news.
“They were very excited,” she said.
“My brother got dux a couple of years ago as well.
“Now it’s up to my sister to see if she can get it as well. She got year 10 dux this year.”
Shakira also obtained a study score of 45 in Art, putting her in the top two per cent of students in that subject.
“It was my favorite subject. I’ve always loved art and I’ll continue with it,” she said.
Shakira’s specialty was watercolours and she mainly painted portraits.
Her other subjects were English, history revolutions, further maths, physical education and health and human development.
“I plan to go to uni next year, ACU or Fed Uni in Ballarat, for a Bachelor of Nursing, she said.
“I’ll probably just work until the offers come out then figure out what to do from there.”
