Detective Senior Constable Wayne Ryan, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said that since the start of November there had been three incidents of sheep thefts reported with the total value of stock more than $35,000.
He said the thefts had been reported in an area north of Lismore and east of Skipton.
"Since the beginning of November there have been three reports of sheep and lambs thefts in that district with the stock valued at more than $35,000," he said.
"We believe the offender is using local roads during the late evening and early hours of the morning and transporting the sheep in stock crates on the back of utes or in trailers.
"We are appealing for information from the public. Residents in these areas will be familiar with those people who use their local roads. If you see an unusual vehicle in your area jot down a registration number and inform police," he said.
Detective Senior Constable Ryan requested that anyone with information contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or the Warrnambool police station.
