It was a close finish for Stawell in its Grampians Bowls Division round nine match against Ararat VRI on its home green amid warm conditions on Saturday.

Stawell managed to win two of the three rinks played with Andrew Cray’s team up by 14 shots in their rink to be the difference between the two teams.
The win keeps Stawell in second space and within reach of ladder leaders Lake Bolac on the division one ladder.
Stawell Golf were back at home and got the maximum points against Aradale with Bruce Blenheim’s rink in great touch winning by 16 shots to lead the way.
Landsborough played Lake Bolac at home and were out classed by the ladder leaders going down by 40 shots overall.
Ian Park was in impressive form during the match, as his group went on to win its rink by 30 shots to put the result beyond doubt.
Chalambar faced Ararat on its home deck and managed to get a win thanks to the big win by Grant Seeary’s rink by 20 shots to keep his team entrenched in the top four with one round remaining before the Christmas break.
Lake Bolac Black fell just short against the Stawell Gold team on its home deck with one rink win a piece, as Joy Seeary got the win for the visitors in the division two match.
Ararat VRI consolidated its position in the four with a good win against Lake Bolac White.
Stawell Blue hosted an Aradale team which included a returning Brian Richards coming back from injury.
The home team came up a couple of shots short on both rinks to give the visitors an unexpected win against the top team which will no doubt build confidence within the group.
Ararat Green continued the run of upsets, as it delivered an straight win against crosstown rivals Ararat Blue to claim the club bragging rights and the points to keep its slim finals hopes alive with five rounds remaining.
Lake Bolac Red had a massive win against Stawell Golf Blue up by 30 shots at the end of the match.
Geoff Britten and Peter Gleason both had good wins to give the Red team the 61 shots to 31 victory.
It was an easy week for the Gold teams with Stawell Golf Gold receiving the points without stepping onto the green after Chalambar forfeited the match while Ararat Gold also claimed the points in the same way against Willaura.
It makes for an interesting final round of matches for 2018 which will be played on Saturday.
With a handful of teams still in the hunt for a finals spot across both divisions, teams will be keen to finish off the year strongly and go into the break with confidence.
