Stawell remains the team to beat in the Grampians Bowls Division midweek competition after a strong performance earned it a maximum 12 points on offer to retain top spot after round nine on Monday.

The home team faced Ararat VRI Red who was no match for the ladder leaders, as Angela Hodgetts got Stawell off to a winning start with her team knocking off Sharolyn Rattray’s group 29 shots to 14.
Joy Seeary and Ellen Werry also played well, as their teams won the remaining two rinks to finish the match comfortable 80-46 winners.
Stawell Golf also put in a strong performance to take 10 points from its match against Ararat VRI Green.
Irene Helmich got the Green team off to a winning start, as her team managed to win the opening rink of the match 26 shots to 21 against Dulcie Molan’s trio.
The Stawell Golf team responded with Dawn Blackman’s group grabbing a narrow two-shot victory in the second rink to ensure the match would be close.
Annette Dwyer’s team managed to hit the front and held on to its lead against Noelene Fratin’s trio in the final rink to win 23-17 to give the Golf team the overall win.
Ararat and Chalambar fought out a close contest with the latter falling just short of victory with a 68 shots to 74 scoreline.
Karen Brennan continued her stunning early season form on the green, as the veteran and her team opened up the match with a win against Rita Dowd’s trio in the first rink by five shots.

In the second rink, it was a similar story as Colleen Wilkinson followed on from Brennan’s efforts, as her team also managed to get ahead on the scoreboard and hold on to win by a single shot to put the pressure on Ararat in the final rink of the match.
In the final rink it was Bev Morrison’s team that started to wilt under the pressure, as Marg Robertson got her team playing some impressive shots.
The composure worked for Ararat, as it managed to win the final rink by 12 shots to give the club the overall win and claim eight of the 12 points on offer.
Lake Bolac also had a comfortable win, consolidating its spot in the top four after an impressive 76 shots to 63 victory against Aradale.
Sandra Tew’s team got Aradale off to a winning start, courtesy of a 10-shot victory in the first rink.
Jackie Bishop continued the momentum in the second rink, as her trio also put in a positive performance to knock off Karen Gleeson’s trio 21 shots to 19.
It was looking like Aradale would get the overall win, as they had a 12-shot buffer going into the final rink but Judy Aldous was not phased by the scoreline.
Her team played some phenomenal shots in the final rink to open up an early lead which continued to grow during play.
The final scoreline was 36 shots to 11 to give Lake Bolac the overall win.
It leaves Lake Bolac in third, trailing Stawell and Stawell Golf in first and second position. Ararat VRI Red rounds out the top four.
