AFL Victoria has donated 20 new footballs to Ararat West Primary on Monday to replace those lost in a late October fire at the school.

AFL Victoria football development manager Jason Muldoon said the league wanted to get the pupils back out on the sporting field.

“Hopefully they can get a kick in before the end of the year,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s football or not, AFl Victoria likes to see kids playing sport.

“It’s a good vehicle for them to continue their life and face the challenges ahead of them.”

Ararat West principal Terry Keilar said that along with classrooms, the school had lost a lot of sports equipment.

“It will encourage the kids to get out in the yard and have a bit of fun, which is greatly appreciated,” he said.

Children’s entertainment group The Mik Maks will also hold a free concert at the school on Wednesday morning after the pupils won a competition run by the band.
