The Ararat Redbacks returned from their first South Australian Country Basketball League road trip without any points but took some positives out of the matches across the weekend.

The men’s team were in its match against Millicent up until the final minutes, eventually going down 86-78 to start the squad’s weekend’s matches on Saturday.
The Redbacks started well and took a narrow two-point lead into the second quarter where they continued to take their chances in offence.
Ararat continued to hold the Magic at bay and led midway through the third term but Millicent were able to hit the front late in the term and hold on after a tense final quarter to record the eight-point win.
Zac Dunmore was the Redbacks’ main offensive weapon, scoring 30 points in a stunning performance while Jordan Robertson was the leading scorer for Millicent, finishing with 41 points for the match.
In the Lady Redbacks’ match, it was a one-sided battle with the home team easily accounting for Ararat 107-38.
The Magic put on 15 points before Ararat could get it first points on the board, courtesy of Gypsy Dunmore to go in trailing 25-6 at the first break.
The first quarter set the tone for the rest of the match, as the home team continued to pile on the points to get the comfortable win against the Lady Redbacks.
Chloe Dunmore top-scored with nine points for Ararat while Zanetta Hosking managed eight points, all in the final term.
Both teams travelled to Mt Gambier, as the men’s team clashed with the Lakers but were outclassed by the ladder leaders on Sunday.
The Redbacks started slowly but were within 12 points at the first change before the home team started to create more chances to score.
The deficit grew to 22 points at the half time break before the Lakers continued to score regularly in the second half to ensure they got the victory to remain undefeated this season.
Zac Dunmore was again the leading scorer, finishing the match with 25 to lead from the front.
Both team’s will have a week off to regroup ahead of a double header against the Colac Kookas at the Ararat Fitness Centre on December 16.
The Lady Redbacks will take to the court first at 6pm with the men’s team to follow at 8pm in the final game before Christmas.
