The council organised a morning tea for volunteers at Horsham Town Hall.
Volunteers from the Horsham Regional Art Gallery, Horsham Town Hall, Multiple Birth Group, Horsham Visitor Information Centre and Meal on Wheels were in attendance.
Horsham’s Kerry Flynn is a volunteer with the Multiple Birth Group.
She said she had been involved with the group for six years and had enjoyed every moment.
“I am a retired midwife and I do not have grandchildren so volunteering not only gives me that grandmother fix but also lets me help the young mothers,” she said.
Horsham’s Jenny Sonego is a volunteer at the Horsham Visitor Information Centre.
“I lived in Horsham earlier in my life, but I moved away for 20 years and came back, so I feel like I know a lot of things around the area,” she said.
“I enjoy meeting people from overseas and helping them discover the best of Horsham.”
Ms Sonego said more people should volunteer because it gave them a chance to meet new people while helping Horsham.
Horsham City Lions Club’s Phil Sheriff is a volunteer for Lions International.
“My wife and I have a disabled daughter and we started volunteering for the Royal Children's Hospital,” he said.
“Since then, we have been volunteering ever since and it has evolved to working with Lions International.”
Ron Eldridge is a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Men’s Shed in Horsham.
“My wife was sick in 1979 and there were no facilities around for helping,” he said.
“When she passed and I retired, I made up my mind that I would help people to the best of my abilities.”
