Volunteers and supporters gathered from across the electorate of Wannon for the awards presentation ceremony at the Beaufort Goldfields Recreation Reserve on Thursday.
Ararat’s Donna Dunmore was presented with a Member of Parliament’s Award for her work with a long list of organisations, including the Ararat State Emergency Service.
Mr Tehan said Ms Dunmore’s efforts at the SES had helped make Ararat’s crew renowned across the region.
“Donna’s nominator summed it up when he said ‘the flow-on effects from Donna’s contribution across the wider community is far too complex to quantify easily,” he said.
“Sustaining SES volunteer numbers, particularly in a small town such as Ararat can be challenging in these times
“Donna’s strong work ethic and professional approach has not only held the Ararat unit in high regard across the region but it has also increased its ability to respond to emergency events.”
Ms Dunmore said the award was unexpected.
“You don’t expected to be given these awards when your volunteer,” she said.
“But it is nice to be recognised.”
Mr Tehan also presented a group volunteer award to Beaufort Apex Club, accepted by Tim Sutherland and Simon Grant.
“The club is committed to youth as well as making Beaufort a fantastic place to live or visit,” Mr Tehan said.
