As part of the latest round of funding from the state governments Country Football and Netball Program the club is set to received more than $93,000 to be put towards upgrading lights at the ground.
Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford announced last week the project will upgrade the lighting at the Natimuk Showground oval to comply with the minimum AFL training standard of 50 lux.
“Better lighting means the club will be able to practice and play at night which in turn helps local residents stay healthy and active,” she said.
“The state government is giving all Victorians better access to the modern and inclusive equipment they deserve, no matter where they live,”
When the football club was contacted at the weekend there was still some confusion as to whether or not the funding had come through.
Nobody at the club had been made aware of the funding announcement.
Showground management committee president Travis Maybury helped put together the application.
He said he has not received confirmation that the funding had been given to the club.
“If the money has come through it will certainly be great for the club and the wider community as well,” he said.
““It will give all the teams a better chance to train from the juniors right through to the seniors.
“There will also be plenty of benefits outside of the football club as well.”
The club wanted a chance to confirm the funding announcement before commenting further.
The club is one of 23 that will share in more than $2 million from the latest round of a program that has injected more than $22 million in more than 400 projects since 2005.
This program replaces and upgrades ageing grounds and equipment for football and netball clubs across regional Victoria. The 2016-17 state budget delivered a further $60 million boost to build new and upgrade older sporting grounds across the state.
This included another $8 million boost for the Country Football and Netball Program.
