The focus of this year’s event shall be the interschool push cart and human powered vehicle challenge to take place in the Alexandra Gardens.
Ararat 800, Ararat North, Ararat West and St. Marys plus guests Stawell West Primary school shall be taking part the primary schools push cart challenge.
The schools are currently constructing their push carts for participation in the event, where teams of students shall take part in a gruelling endurance and action sprint races.
A fun filled picnic is planned with a range of entertainment to ensure the students shall enjoy their Golden Gateway Festival school day.
This shall include the ‘crowning of the King’ and ceremonial performing circus.
The interschool push cart and human powered vehicle event is being kindly being supported by Gason Engineering, with the Central Grampians LLEN, Pacific Hydro, and Ararat Rural City supporting ‘picnic in the park.’

Ararat Golden Gateway Opening Ball
Friday 20th October
The Ararat Golden Gateway Festival will begin with the Opening Ball at the St Andrews Hall, Barkly Street.
The 2017 Festival Queen will be announced and the Coronation Ceremony will be performed by 2016 Queen and Official Party.
Band performing this year is “No Mistake”.

Ararat Gold Dig
Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd October
Green Hill Lake Reserve, Ararat
MAJOR PRIZE: 2 x Metal Detectors.
There will be three sessions held across the weekend, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
Presentations will be at 1.30pm on Sunday.
Participants will search for tokens strategically placed on each dig site, while there is the possibility of finding real gold in the area.
All tokens found from each session will be collected and entered for overall champion.
There will be many other prizes to be won over the weekend.
Rules and regulations are to be adhered to by all participants.
Entrants are required to supply their own metal detectors.
The event is fully catered for all meals over two days, breakfast from 8.30am Saturday.
Camping is also available from Friday night. Major sponsors include Mine Lab, Coiltek, PMAV, Golden Gateway Festival, Ararat Y’s Men’s Club and Lyal Eales.

Ararat Golden Gateway Festival Variety Concert

Featuring local Artists, both children and adults.
The concert is showing musical talents and dance of both young and older generations.

Mary North Memorial and Club Pool Championship

All entry fees donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital in memory of the late Mary North.
B grade qualifying rounds will be held on Monday 23rd October: players to meet at the Leopold Hotel by 6.45pm where they will be advised where they play.
A grade qualifying rounds will be held Tuesday 24th October: players to meet at the Ararat Hotel by 6.45pm where they will be advised where they play.
Finals will be held on Thursday 26th October at the Leopold Hotel at 7.00pm.
