The relay will visit the city on February 13 after leaving Geelong in the morning.
It will then pass through Werribee and Ballarat before arriving in Ararat.
The Ararat Rural City Council has activities planned for the full day but is still working through the final details before releasing the itinerary. It is expected the activities will start to be finalised soon with the baton bearers to be announced at the end of October.
The baton relay will leave Ararat on February 14 and head to Bendigo, Shepparton and Wangaratta to continue its journey to the Gold Coast ahead of the opening ceremony on April 4.
The baton contains a message from The Queen that will be read out at the ceremony ahead of the 11-day event.
Ararat is the westernmost city the baton will visit in Victoria, apart from Mildura in the Mallee.
