MORE people stayed overnight at Lake Fyans in the past year than any other Wimmera waterway, a study has found.

The Wimmera Development Association study found that 21,649 people stayed overnight at Lake Fyans in 2016-17.
The report said the lake generated the largest contribution from visitors and other users than other lakes in the region.
“Overnight visitors made up the overwhelming majority of this contribution,” the report said. The lake contributed $2.75 million to the region’s economy.
“The lake is one of the most important recreational lakes in the region,” the report said.
About 6500 visited Lake Lonsdale in Northern Grampians Shire in 2016-17.
Lake Lonsdale Action Group president Ray Howard said the lake was looking absolutely magnificent at the moment.
He said on Tuesday there was about four or five boats out on the water.
“There was a bloke there who brought his kids over from Clunes,” he said.
Mr Howard said whenever Lake Lonsdale was full, it was excellent for the town.
“Lots of residents used to go away to the beach or other areas, but now they just go to Lake Lonsdale,” he said.
“It’s a nice spot to be, there are great sandy beaches and it’s one of the only areas around with free camping.
“It’s still a bit early for fishing at the moment, but once it gets going, it will be packed out there right through summer.
Other lakes in Northern Grampians Shire include Lake Wartook, Lake Bellfield and Walkers Lake at Avon Plains.
Lake Wartook is the primary water source for Horsham and Natimuk.
