Police have confirmed a single vehicle crash at Mount Lonarch near Lexton this morning has resulted in a fatality.
Police believe the car was travelling west on Lexton-Ararat Road when it left the roadway and struck a tree about 11.30am.
The unidentified driver died at the scene and police could not yet confirm if there were any other occupants in the vehicle.
Police have yet to determine the exact cause of the crash..
Lexton-Ararat Road is currently closed, motorists are advised to seek an alternative route.
Police are investigating following a single vehicle fatal crash in Mount Lonarch this morning.

Police and emergency services are responding to a road accident on Lexton-Ararat Road, Mount Lonarch on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident was first reported to emergency services at about 11:30am Tuesday south-east of the Amphitheatre Road intersection south of Amphitheatre.
Three Country Fire Authority units attended the incident, which was listed with a person trapped and a fire.
The incident is believed to have involved a vehicle collision and the road has been blocked off by police.
The CFA declared the incident under control just after 12pm.
