The rainbow-coloured piece was designed by members of Juno Vesta – a support group for LGBTQI people – and highlights Grampians Community Health’s dedication as a Rainbow Tick accredited organisation.
The accreditation is provided to organisations that have shown a commitment to caring for the wellbeing of the LGBTQI community.
Grampians Community Health has developed a Rainbow committee and chairwoman Gemma Beavis said it was important to provide people with an avenue of support.
“As a leading health organisation in the region, we take very seriously our duty to support equality for all and provide support to some of the most marginalised groups in our community,” she said.
“We also understand that people in the LGBTQI community are more likely to experience and be diagnosed with a mental health disorder and be susceptible to discrimination and exclusion in their community.”
LGBTQI people are nearly three times as likely to experience depression in their lifetime.
Members of the community have already utilised the resources the Rainbow committee provides.
Grampians Community Health provides access to social support groups for young people under the age of 25.
