Tatyoon hosts a repeat of last year’s Grand Final opponent Wickliffe-Lake Bolac with both clubs currently on equal points.
The Magpies hold down third place while the Hawks are in fourth position with Tatyoon only 14 per cent behind the Magpies. A loss to either club may shatter confidence so close to the finals.
The other game which could decide fifth place is Hawkesdale-Macarthur playing Penshurst who is four points behind with a large percentage.
It is a must win for both clubs with the winner set to move closer to a finals berth.
Supporters of six clubs need not make arrangements for finals preparations at the moment.
All teams have a complicated draw for the remaining rounds – after this week the Magpies play Hawkesdale-Macarthur, Moyston-Willaura, Great Western and Caramut.
The reigning premiers play Great Western, Glenthompson-Dunkeld, Lismore-Derrinallum and finish with Moyston-Willaura.
The season has shown a number of surprise results with unbeaten Lismore-Derrinallum the highly fancied flag favourites.
It will not come as a shock to this writer as the winning of a premiership is never easy, and any opponent has to beat them just once, on that one day in September.
Wickliffe-Lake Bolac is holding a 20 year premiership reunion on August 5th to celebrate possibly their greatest victory with a team made up of extremely talented young players mixed with a few skilled older players.
The reserves competition is clear cut for the top five with SMW Rovers unbeaten through the season with Wickliffe-Lake Bolac on second spot and having a large percentage. Fifth spot is still wide open with Penshurst currently in that position, ahead of Moyston-Willaura and Woorndoo-Mortlake knocking on the door.
