With 2017 marking 40 years since ABBA toured Australia, Burchmore said it was the perfect time to put on a show.
“I was a die-hard ABBA fan and never got to go to that concert so this isn’t just a tribute show, but our desperation to be Anna and Frida with our hairbrush in front of the mirror,” Burchmore said.
ABBA-Solutely Fabulous is a story of growing up in the Australia and a friendship between two best friends.
“We talk about everything from growing up in the 1970s to our mad crushes on Benny and Björn,” she said.
Burchmore said she was excited to bring the show to regional areas, having never played at the new Horsham Town Hall.
“I stayed in Horsham 30 years ago when I did a guest role in the television drama The Flying Doctors, so I’m looking forward to coming back. I’ve heard wonderful things about the town hall,” she said.
“A lot of people don’t come into Melbourne so it’s really nice for us to come to you and do the show, bring the music and all the craziness to you guys.”
Burchmore also wrote and produced ABBA-Solutely Fabulous.
“I don’t sit idle for too long so I thought I’d take the plunge and finance the thing myself,” she said.
Rhonda said the songs almost wrote themselves into the show.
“It just flows so beautifully,” she said. “We start with Thank you For the Music; then to Nina, Pretty Ballerina and Honey Honey when we talk about our crushes on Benny and Björn.”
”We certainly get a bit of a workout when we do Waterloo and Dancing Queen.”
Burchmore said the duo would be accompanied on stage with a band.
“I have a fabulous hot young boy band who will provide the whole ABBA experience in their little white shorts and sequin tops,” she said.
ABBA-Solutely Fabulous is at the Horsham Town Hall on August 4; tickets cost $60.
