Giants coach Shaun Monohan said it was a hard fought game and the scoreboard didn’t reflect the contest.
The final score was Giants 20.12 (132) to Swifts 10.10 (70).
It was a relatively even game at the end of the first quarter with the Giants leading 4.2 (26) to 1.4 (10).
The Giants created a 24-point gap coming into half time.
When the sides came out of the sheds after the main break, one team looked ready to play while the other looked lethargic – Swifts the latter.
In the third term the Giants kicked six unanswered majors to help the side to a powerhouse second half.
Kain Robins bagged a massive 10 goals on the day and Monohan said he was the difference.
“He’s always a terrific target, he was the difference in the end,” he said.
Monohan said the Baggies were good in close.
“We had a good patch just after halftime,” he said.
“To their credit, they fought hard all day.
“Every side is coming after us now, we just need to be ready every week.”
Liam Price has been in strong form in recent weeks and showed what type of leader he is again against the Baggies.
“Tim Sanford did a good job on Cameron, he was the first bloke I thought of to match up on him,” he said.
Monohan said the Baggies’ best attribute was the players never gave up.
“As a whole they are a pretty even side,” he said.
“We definitely respect them.
“When we played well we were able to get it on the outside.”
Monohan said he was happy to see the Swift players at the Beulah pub.
“We had a couple of beers with them, it was great to see them sticking around,” he said.
Ben Taylor stood up again for the Baggies.
