At this Sunday’s Pomonal Village market, Pomonal Village Market Co-ordinator Alison Bainbridge has advised that there will be lots of warming autumn comfort for sale.
There will be up to forty stalls at the event.
Some of the products on display include woolen hand spun and hand knitted items, jams and chutneys, vegetables, wine and books.
A selection of native plants will also be available as well as herbs for the herb garden enthusiast.
This month’s market includes award winners in the line up and with produce that is suitable to plant right now.
A stall will also be occupied by Anna King and David Herbert who produce artisan handcrafted garlic at Wilde’s Lane in local Moyston.
They won the gold medal at the 2017 Australian Food Awards with their ‘Spanish Rojar’ hardneck garlic.
Their garlic will be available for purchase as well as their other organic produce and monthly orders are available for those on their mailing list.
Ms Bainbridge has co-ordinated the market for the last 4 or 5 years and has held a stall for jewelry over that time.
“We get good crowds, especially for lunches,” Ms Bainbridge said.
The kitchen will be in full swing providing teas and coffees, hot food and cakes and slices.
An outdoor barbecue will also be manned by the Pomonal Hall Committee. Market attendees can sit undercover on the verandah and watch the world go by while they indulge.
“The Pomonal Village Market has been running for 26 years,” Ms Bainbridge said.
“It was started to help raise money for the community.”
Funds from the stalls go toward the Pomonal Progress Association.
“For the past 15-20 years we have been raising funds for the Pomonal Hall,” Ms Bainbridge said.
The hall was opened in September 2016 and the project cost added up to $985,367 which the council and state government helped to fund.
With that project completed, Ms Bainbridge said they would be putting funds into other community causes.
“We’ve got our hall now. We are hoping to raise funds to furnish it and for other projects in the community.”
Aside from the residents of Ararat and Stawell, Ms Bainbridge said the market attracts lots of visitors coming to see the Grampians.
A clearing shower is predicted for Sunday so it will be safe to pop out and explore the new Pomonal hall inside and out.
The market runs from 10.00 until 2.00 on Sunday June 28.
Pomonal Hall is located on Ararat-Halls Gap Road.
