The Saints emerged the eventual winners, defeating the Kees 21.12 (138) to 12.8 (80) at Kalkee on Saturday.
The Kees won the first quarter and led by seven points at the first break.
The Saints managed to wiggle closer to the Kees’ scoreline, trailing by one point at the long break, but the Kees still had the upper hand.
They scored the opening two majors in the second half and looked to have found their stride.
But the Saints had other ideas.
The visitors kicked five goals and turned the match on its head to lead by 37 points going into the last quarter.
It was there a mauling took place, with the Saints limiting the Kees to just two majors while the travelling side managed five to seal the four points.
Saint George Walker booted a massive nine majors to help his side over the line.
Edenhope-Apsley coach Michael Rowe said Walker was the difference.
“Young Lachie Middleton also played four really good quarters of football and played very hard at the ball,” he said.
“I was pretty happy with the end result but in all honesty there wasn’t much in the game.”
Although the side came out 58-point victors, Rowe said Kalkee didn’t let up all day.
“I was a little worried at half-time but after we started to get into our stride in the third quarter I thought, ‘yeah, we should do this,’” he said.
“Our fitness was the thing that prevailed I think.
“We started very scratchy but the boys managed to work their way back into it.”
Middleton, Walker and Daniel Richardson, Jason Rae, James Rowe and Matthew Butler were named the Saints’ best.
Daniel Schache, Hamish Exell, Ben Lawson, Blair Thomas, Matthew Nield and Jasper Gunn were the leaders for Kalkee.
