The house registered 1043 points to edge ahead of Nyora’s 985 points and Baarluk’s 936 points.
Senior sports coordinator Laura Vellekoop said it was a fantastic turnout for the carnival.
“There was many inspiring performances, some surprised winners, and plenty of encouragement from everyone involved,” Vellekoop said.
“Quite a few students came close to matching and breaking Kaniva College records, particularly in the high jump.”
Meruko’s Milly Rabone broke the 10-year-old girls long jump record with a distance of 3.41 metres.
The nine-year-old mixed relay record was broken by Baarluk’s Lucy Muraney, Tyler Saunders, Xavier Wheaton and Ruby Gordon with a time of 1.13.94.
Vellekoop said a highlight was teachers winning the surprise race planned by the year 12 students.
Each carnival the year 12s challenge the teachers to a different race.
This year saw them compete in a 7x25 metre relay while running in a cardboard box car and being pelted with water balloons.
“Other highlights included the costumes of the year 12s and some very close heats in the 100 metre and 200 metre sprints,” Vellekoop said.
“The sportsmanship showed by our primary athletes was also great.”
Vellekoop thanked all the helpers and volunteers for their efforts.
“The event would not be able to happen without so many dedicated helpers and volunteers,” she said.
“We are looking forward to seeing how our students compare at the Little Desert Track and Field event in May.”
