A man has died following a car and truck collision in Beaufort this morning.
Ballarat Highway Patrol Sergeant Ben Young said the man was attempting a U-turn in a white ute at the intersection of Skipton and Lake Roads when a truck travelling north along Skipton Road smashed into it about 8.30am.
The driver of the ute, a 27-year-old Beaufort man, died at the scene from critical injuries.
A passenger, a 24-year-old Ballarat man, was conveyed to hospital.
The truck driver was not injured and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Emergency services are attending what is now believed to be a fatal accident on the Skipton Road south of Beaufort.
The collision between a truck and car collided occurred at 8.30am this morning.
Earlier Ambulance Victoria spokesman Paul Bentley confirmed an air ambulance was en route to the accident on the Skipton Road a few kilometres outside of Beaufort.
One driver in his twenties with neck and shoulder injuries and facial lacerations was taken by road ambulance to the helicopter landing point and flown to Melbourne.
Details of the other driver are not yet known
All emergency services are on scene.
