The 11-year-old competed in the 12 and under age group at Olympic Park and did halfpipe tricks like airs, grinds and 360 spins.
Cranstoun has been skating for four years and already has a sponsorship with Skateboarding company Globe, where they provide him decks and apparel to use during competitions.
The second-placed skater said he enjoyed the experience.
“It was fun and challenging at the same time,” he said.
“Dad got me into it, because he used to skate when he was a kid and he said I should try it.
“And now Dad has started skating again, so we go skating together sometimes.”
Mrs Cranstoun said Lachie won the Victorian Vert Championships to qualify for the national titles, where his second-place finish has earned him qualification into another big event.
“Because he came second in the national titles, he gets direct entry into the semi-finals of the Rocky Mountain Rampage event in the United States,” she said.
“We will assess over the next month and decide if we do go over for it or not.”
Cranstoun said he hopes to emulate his hero Tony Hawk’s career.
“I probably look up to him, because he is one of the only people who was not crazy and acted nice,” he said.
“I want to continue skateboarding and aim for the X Games when I am older.
“I do get scared but it is still fun to skate and do all the tricks.”
