The 22-year-old will race with the Mitchelton-Scott team when during the European cycling season.
It is the first year the Mitchelton-Scott team will be involved in the season after being involved in the national team previously.
Hamilton said it was another step in progressing as a cyclist.
“A lot of the big names on the tour have had something to do with the national team early in their careers,” he said.
“So it gives us good confidence to know we are on the right track.”
The move will also allow Hamilton to compete in different races during the season.
“Now that we are a continental team, we will probably get more starts in the bigger senior races,” Hamilton said.
“These races are a good stepping stone to get a taste of what its like in Europe on the main tour.”
Hamilton will compete in the Oceania Road Cycling Championships in Canberra on March 11. He will return home for a week before flying to Europe on March 19 to prepare for the season.
