Ararat Rural City Council voted to approve the measure at its ordinary meeting on Tuesday night.
It will see parking restricted to two hours from 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.
A report tabled at the meeting said East Grampians Health Service Staff were using Vincent Street, between Alexandra Avenue and Girdlestone Street, for parking during the day.
This was despite free parking being available at the hospital.
The report also said the same issue saw parking on Girdlestone Street time restricted to years ago as well.
A letter has been sent to residents on Vincent Street to notify them of the change.
Council’s report said all houses on the street had off-street parking available, so they would be unaffected.
East Grampians Health Service was also supportive of the change.
