The notice is not a fine – but an opportunity for people to explain why they did not vote.
“It’s compulsory for Victorians on the state electoral roll (to vote),” electoral commissioner Warwick Gately said. “If you did not vote but you do provide a sufficient excuse, then you won’t be fined.”
