Parks Victoria Grampians Peaks Trail project manager Mark Gallon said he expected the works near Mount Staplyton to finish at the end of February.
“They are taking old trails - vehicle maintenance tracks - and bringing them up to the standard we want for the walking trails,” he said.
“It will be world class.”
Mr Gallon said major realignment work had started around Mount Difficult with one kilometre of track construction and six kilometres of vegetation clearing.
“We have discovered three new seasonal waterfalls,” he said.
“The bushfires have allowed us to get a better view of where the track should go.”
The $29-million project will eventually link the Grampians mountains with a multi-day walking trail and accommodation facilities.
