Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Richard Carlyon said the Wimmera had already received about two to five millimetres of rain by 1pm Friday.
“There will probably by another two to five millimetres by the afternoon,” he said.
“Most places will see about four to 10mm in total, possibly more in the northern areas.”
The Wimmera recorded 90 per cent relative humidity at noon on Friday.
“It’s very tropical, It’s unusual for this time of year,” Mr Carlyon said.
Mr Carlyon said a humid air mass from north-west Australia had moved south and caused the rain.
“it should clear up later this afternoon as a cold front moves over,” he said.
“There’s no sign of similar conditions over the next four to five days.”
