The pair will be performing at Ararat Hotel’s Red Room from 8pm to start the year with folk and jazz performances..
Taylor is a 27-year-old indie-folk singer-songwriter, who has an occasional base in the surf coast town of Lorne.
He had piano lessons at Geelong’s St Joseph’s College, in year 8, igniting his passion for writing and recording music.
Next he formed a band with high school mates, but sold his piano at 18 to fund his music career.
Taylor hit the road in 2013 and has been moving around ever since, travelling Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Europe.
He has also played support gigs for Josh Pyke, James Reyne, Jordie Lane and Mark Seymour from Hunters & Collectors.
Taylor will support Nick Charles, who has uses melodic finger picking on six and twelve string guitars.
With stinging bottleneck slides and a lifetime of stories and songs gathered or written on the world’s musical highways it is no surprise that Charles is labeled internationally as Australia’s virtuoso of acoustic roots and blues.
During his extensive and acclaimed career, Charles has released more than a dozen albums on major Australian and US roots music labels.
His recordings have garnered world-wide recognition beginning with My Place and now his most recent release The River Flows.
This recognition saw him signed to the Grammy award winning label, Solid Air Records USA.
Only one other Australian, musician Tommy Emmanuel, has been recognised by the American label.
Consistently averaging 150 shows a year in Australia, New Zealand and the USA, Charles’ music encompasses a delightful and eclectic mix of acoustic roots including blues, folk and early ragtime jazz.
During his performances there are stylish nods to the Great American Songbook and the finest contemporary players and composers from Chet Atkins, to Lennon and McCartney, to Leo Kottke.
Charles has won a swag of Australian blues and fold awards.
This list includes the Port Fairy Folk Festival Artist of the Year 2014, twice winner of the Australian Song Contest and the Song of the Year in 2013 and 2014 at the Australian Blues Awards.
He has also won the MBAS Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Solo Performer of the Year awards multiple times.
Tickets for the Charles and Taylor’s show at the Ararat Hotel will be available at the door for $20 for adults.
