Kindergarten teacher Georgie Smith said staff and the committee wanted to have an event that involved the community.
“We wanted to have a social event that involved all the families,” she said.
“So we decided to have an exhibition for children’s art.”
Ms Smith said the exhibition featured work from all the children at the kindergarten.
“To get ready for the exhibition, we took the four-year-old children to the Horsham Art Gallery where we talked about the different paintings on display,” she said.
“We looked at one that had someone looking sad in it and I asked the children why the person was sad, and they came up with five different reasons.
“The exercise was to teach them that everyone was right when it came to art.”
Ms Smith said she also invited an artist to come and talk to the children about painting.
“We wanted to expose them to lots of different things before we gave them a canvas to create their own work,” she said.
She said the children loved creating masterpieces for the exhibition.
“They were so proud of what they did,” she said.
“I was astonished with the turnout at the exhibition.
“We had lots of parents and grandparents.
“There was a great sense of community too because everyone stood in the playground and chatted for hours.
“It didn’t matter if the children put three dots of paint on their canvas or painted the Mona Lisa – everyone was proud and everyone respected each other.
“It was a learning curve for us, but it was a great experience and committee should be commended.”
Ms Smith said the exhibition was something the kindergarten would look to do again in the future.
