If I told you I screamed last Wednesday morning while staring at an email, you might think of all kinds of reasons that could illicit such bad behaviour, but would you guess that I was reading about two of the Grosser girls making it onto the Horsham Arts Council’s Annie cast list?

You really won’t believe it when I tell you that I am one of them!
I have been cast as Annette.
Annette is a French maid on Mr Warbucks’ enormous housekeeping staff.
While my casting caused general shock and mirth in the kitchen, it was 10-year-old Tiani’s casting as Tessie the orphan – one of Annie’s friends – that really had me screaming – literally – until Katianna growled at me and told me that I was frightening them all.
She also told me not to write this column, as it would sound like bragging.
I hope you don’t think so, I just thought you would want to share in our excitement.
Tiani is completely over the moon.
She told me she prayed to God, but I frowned and again explained that God is not a genie, and He knows much better what is good for us than we do – thankfully He was completely in agreement with her on this issue though.
Yippee!
I was able to celebrate while reading those early emails because I was nervously waiting for a couple more messages to come through soon after with good news about Katianna and Yasinta’s involvement in the production – they too had attended a call back audition with 20 singing, dancing and acting orphans.
Those good news emails never came.
The big girls in the household will not be appearing on stage for the Annie production.
So Tiani and I have experienced a drastic mix of joy and sadness.
The big girls have been terrific though, not shedding a tear in public, but adjusting to the idea of volunteering for a back stage role and getting some experience in a different area of the production.
It seems centuries since I’ve danced but soon I’ll be spinning around the Warbucks mansion tossing up between silk or satin sheets for a little orphan girl who has come to stay for Christmas - while Tiani scrubs the orphanage floor.
To quote one of the song titles, “I think I’m gonna like it here.”
