The selections came after strong performances during the V/Line Cup in Gippsland in September.

Ararat Storm football manager David Nicholson said the selections were a nice reward for a strong season by the team.

"It is fantastic to have that representation in the Rebels squad,” he said.

"It is a squad of 40, including rookie Renee Saulitis, who is ineligible to be on the main list due to her age.”

Nicholson said early training would have many benefits for the Storm team ahead of the 2017 Ballarat Football League Youth Girls season.

"These girls are obviously going to be fit. So they will have a good fitness base for the season, which will obviously be a positive,” he said.

“And they can bring plenty of knowledge back with them to share with the rest of the team which will improve the whole team.”

“The standard is obviously a bit higher at that level and because of that some of the girls actually play better, because they know kicks will go to their advantage and things like that.”

The under-18 Rebels girls coach Jeff Whittaker said many of the girls had been involved in the system last season.

"Angela Stoneman and Lauren Sykes are the new ones this year. The rest were involved previously, which is good to see them again,” he said.

The tryout process has grown in the past 12 months with 50 girls in 2015, increasing to 90 this year.

Whittaker said the Storm players provided a variety of skills to the squad.

"Storm have a variety of players that we picked. They can play around the midfield, key position and even ruck at times,” Whittaker said. “So they give us that versatitlity which is great.”

The squad will start training after the Christmas break with games set to start in mid-March.

Whittaker said the games would provide an opportunity for the players to take their football to another level. "At the end of the games, the Vic Country will pick a squad to train. From there they will pick the Vic Country team to play in the championships in Queensland in July.”
