Burmeister took the reins for his first season as coach of the Pumas in 2016, with the club missing finals.

The coach said the finish to the 2016 season would drive him to strive for greater success next year.

"I took it personally and a bit to heart as first-year coach that we missed finals,” he said.

"It has motivated our boys with about a dozen players still around from the 2014 premiership win.”

The club has retained all its key players for the 2017 season.

Burmeister said he is in the process of adding some strength to the team ahead of next season.

"We have not lost any players and we are on the verge of gaining some new ones in the next few weeks,” he said.

“So once we get them locked away we will be set for hopefully a better season next year.”

The clubs has already started preseason training.
