The event runs from Friday to Monday across the Grampians wine region.
Halls Gap Visitor Information Centre was transformed into a mini wine cellar, with pop-up stalls from regional award-winning wineries including Best’s Great Western, Montara, Mount Langi Ghiran and others, giving people a small taste of the what was still to come.
Grampians Tourism chief executive Will Flamsteed said the festival launch had received a lot of interest.
“There seemed to be a lot of people there to see the launch of a fantastic event,” he said.
“It gives the region the chance to showcase it’s wines and the region’s flagship shiraz.
“The festival program allows the guests to experience wines where they are made.”
Mr Flamsteed said there would be masterclasses for people to attend where they could witness sparkling shiraz being made.
“We aimed for a variety of options this year, with live music and theatre nights available,” he said.
“People will have a great time exploring the region.
“There is a broad church of experiences.” He said the timing of the event in the lead in to the Melbourne Cup would benefit the festival.
“A lot of people use the Melbourne Cup as a chance to visit family back home in the country and we hope that this festival is socially engaging for friends and family,” he said.
“Seriously Shiraz offers something for people of all ages, from the younger crowd looking to learn more about wine, to the more experienced wine tasters.”
