Mr Cameron served on the shire’s council from 1977 to its amalgamation in 1995.
He was the shire’s president in 1981-82 and again in 1987-88. Kieran Shade worked on the council with Mr Cameron and said he would be missed.
“He was a very capable councillor and led the shire well as president,” he said.
“He fought hard for road funding, especially when the Balmoral railway line closed.”
Mr Cameron was also a top sportsman in the Wimmera and was described as a a bit of a legend as well as a fierce fast bowler. His funeral is next week.
