The winery has been owned by the Thomson family for five generations since William Thomson and his son Frederick Pinchon purchased it in 1920.
In that time it has received a number of major wine awards, including the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy in 2012 for its 2011 shiraz.
The Thomson Family Shiraz was also named Australia’s Best Wine for 2014.
The event is part of the Seriously Shiraz festival running across the Grampians.
Owner Viv Thomson said the anniversary a nice reality check for his family, with his three sons and daughter still involved in the business.
“When you think of Australia, we were a young country and if you go back 150 years into the company, there was a lot a going on at the time,” he said.
“We have only been owned by two families in 150 years.
“There probably very few places, not just in Australia, but in the world as well that can say that.
“Every now and then you stop and say, ‘well bloody hell 150 years that’s a long long time’.”
The Thomson family moved to the Ararat district in 1893.
Mr Thomson said in the 96 years his family had owned the vineyards, Best’s had been known for its shiraz.
“I would say here at Best’s we have carved a reputation for that,” he said.
Best’s Cellar Door supervisor Nicole Major said the winery was the best placed she had worked.
“The staff here are loyal, they have been with us for a long time and that is something that comes through in the quality of service and the quality of wine,” she said.
“It makes for a comforting, family orientated workplace.
“I have been here for five years and I wouldn’t work for anyone else.”
The gourmet sausage sizzle on Saturday week will be hosted by the Ararat Rotary Club at the winery.
There will also be musical entertainment from the Ararat College Band.
Mr Thomson said he wanted as many people from the Grampians as possible to attend the event.
