SES operations manager grampians Kendra Clegg said Wednesday night’s storm saw 20 call outs in the Wimmera, with more on Thursday morning as residents woke to discover trees across roads.
She said while South Australia had the worst of the wild weather with the state plunged into darkness, Wimmera towns close to the border like Kaniva and Edenhope experienced rainfall of about 32mm.
Dr Clegg said two houses at Kaniva and the Lillimur CFA station required sandbagging after heavy rainfall caused overland flows and inundation.
“Certainly we’re in readiness mode for the worst case scenario but we’re quite grateful like last week we were able to avoid a lot of the rainfall,” she said.
Dr Clegg said strong winds would remain with another front bringing heavy rain on Sunday.
