A day of celebrations has been prepared by the town to welcome the cup.
A fashion morning tea will start the day off at the Buangor Sports Centre Pavilion from 10am to noon.
Tickets cost $10 per person and it includes a demonstration from a Buangor milliner.
It will be followed by a carnival at the Pavilion from 2pm to 5pm.
Fairy floss, a jumping castle and popcorn will be on sale.
The Cobb & Co stage coach and horses from Sovereign Hill will also attend.
A gala evening at the Cobb & Co building will include guest speaker and Melbourne Cup winning trainer Darren Weir.
Buangor and Ararat district residents will have the chance to hold the Melbourne Cup and have their photo taken with the iconic trophy.
A joint committee with Buangor Primary School, which first applied to have the cup visit and the Buangor Sport Centre Pavilion, has been formed to organise the major event.
Committee member Damian Ferrari said it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for people to get a photo with the cup.
“The Emirates Melbourne Cup is a big chance not just for the primary school kids, but also the wider community, who can get their photo with it,” he said.
“The activities are a unique opportunity for people in the area.”
Mr Ferrari said Cobb & Co building at Buangor was likely the only one left in working condition in Australia.
“The stage coach and horses from Sovereign Hill will be attending for the community function,” he said.
“It is pretty good to have a Cobb & Co horses in front of the original building at Buangor.”
Gala evening tickets with Darren Weir are selling fast with strong interest driving from the community.
Weir is the trainer of Prince of Penzance, the 2015 Melbourne Cup winning horse, whose owners are also from the region.
The Melbourne Cup tour of Australia runs from July 3 to November 1.
