The annual Paint the Town Purple event will run from Monday to Friday and businesses will decorate their windows.
Organiser Tami Lane said the week was the official launch for Relay for Life, which would be in March.
She said she was amazed by the creativity of last year’s displays and she looked forward to seeing what businesses did this year.
“Cancer affects the entire community and it is great to have such wonderful support from businesses,” she said.
“So far businesses have really stepped it up this year, not just for decorations, but for donations as well.”
Students at Horsham’s St Brigid’s College made timber signs that say ‘hope’ for the event.
Mrs Lane said Horsham’s Bunnings and Mitre 10 donated the timber and Dulux donated the paint for the signs.
The signs will be displayed throughout the city and at the relay next year.
The committee also ran a design contest for a mascot and the winner was Louise Fowler, aged 13.
Mrs Lane said Louise wanted to get involved in the competition after her mum had treatment for cancer.
“Her winning design was distributed to schools for a colouring competition,” she said.
“We’ve had more than 400 entries so far and the talent of the children and their attention to detail has been fantastic.”
The coloured pages will be distrusted to businesses for display.
Mrs Lane said more than 120 businesses has registered for Paint the Town Purple so far.
“It’s fantastic to see so many new businesses getting involved,” she said.
‘Sometimes we forget that without the support of communities we would not be able to help the Cancer Council and its mission to help find a cure.”
