Roads situation urgent
THE state Labor government must step up and provide urgent roads funding following the devastating impact heavy rains and floods are having on Wimmera roads.
Our roads are more dangerous than they have ever been before and the Andrews Labor government can no longer force our local people to face these dangerous conditions.
Heavy rainfalls and flood events have caused significant road surface damage and further deterioration.
Pot holes have formed right across the region, which are only getting worse with every vehicle and truck passing over them.
The full impact on our roads is still unknown but what has been seen already is devastating.
I urge people to report all road hazards to VicRoads, which can be done through my website www.emmakealy.com or by phoning 131 170.
This will help give VicRoads the data they need to demonstrate that more funding is needed to respond to road hazard reports.
The Labor government must not only reverse their drastic cuts to the country roads budget but they must release urgent funding to repair our roads and bridges following the impact of heavy rains.
I assure the Lowan electorate that I will continue to lobby this city-centric Labor government so we receive our fair share of roads funding to stop local lives being put at risk. I remind everyone to remain vigilant, slow down and take extra care when travelling on our county roads.

Run for council
THE Victorian Farmers Federation urges farmers to make a bid for council positions at the upcoming local government elections.
It is vital the interests of farmers are represented.
Farmers have many concerns with local government and the best way to lead local government is to become local government.
Local councils need to balance the interests of agriculture with those of town residents, so it’s vital that we see equal representation from different groups around the council table.
While many local governments are fair to all residents, there are still examples of unfair ratings by councils, unfair interpretation of native vegetation rules and unfair regulations placed on farm production.
The federation will support its members in the elections wherever possible if they chose to stand as candidates.
We need farmers to take a renewed interest in local government so our concerns are dealt with and to ensure farmers are treated fairly.
Farming voices must be heard at all government levels – especially at local government.
Nominations are open now and close on Tuesday, September 20. Local government elections are on Saturday, October 22.
