Parks Victoria and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning said weather permitting, a burn will ignite on Monday at 10am and continue until 6pm Friday.
The ecological burn plans to cover 599 hectares and will initiate 12km south-west of Dimboola at McCabes Hut Track.
The department advised smoke might be visible in Duchembegarra, Nurcoung, Little Desert, Dimboola, Grass Flat and Cooack.
Country Fire Authority is working with the departments to reduce the risk of bushfire this coming fire season.
Parks Victoria advises people to stay away from areas where burns and planned or places recently burnt.
They said to be careful on the roads and be aware of potentially lowered visibility and changed signed conditions.
Parks Victoria said nearby residents should close all doors and windows and avoid hanging washing outside.
Access to walking tracks, car parks, camping ground and picnic sites may be restricted.
The Department of Health advises that you should seek medical advice or call Nurse on Call on 1300 606 024.
