Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier, Member for Bundoora Colin Brooks MP said a $41,922 grant had been approved under the Shooting Sports Facilities Program.
The grant will go towards renovating toilet and shower facilities, new rainwater tanks and the installation of instant gas hot water.
It will also be used to concrete the floor of the battery shed and to purchase new clay trap throwers and trailers.
Donald Field and Game secretary David Falla said the new water tank would allow grass to be planted to reduce the amount of dust around the clubrooms.
“We’ll also improve our facilities,” he said.
“We have lady members now with young children so we need changing rooms.”
Mr Falla said the grants would allow the club to continue its growth.
“We started two years ago with the first ladies’ shooting event and that brought new people in.
“We had two women join who later brought in their husbands to shoot with us.
“It’s great to have people and their partners be able to share in a sport.”
Mr Falla said the club first applied for grant money two years ago but was not successful.
“We first applied two years ago but we we weren’t successful,” he said.
“Then we applied again at the start of this year.
“We hope to start putting in the equipment as soon as possible but the money hasn’t arrived yet.”
Mr Brooks said the government would provided clubs like Donald Field and Game the support they needed to provide safe, modern facilities for people who love shooting sports.
“Donald Field and Game is a great local institution that sits at the heart of the community. We’re thrilled to be giving it the upgrade it deserves,” he said.
“We want our sports clubs to offer safe, modern facilities for the locals who use them every week.
“Shooting clubs aren’t just a great place for people to gather, they’re where people learn about the safe and responsible use of firearms.”
