A separate $10,000 grant was also awarded to the Ararat and Stawell Field and Game club to purchase two new automatic clay throwers.
The cash was awarded under the Shooting Sports Facilities Grants program.
Regional Victoria Parliamentary Secretary Danielle Green visited the two clubs on Monday to announce their successful grant application.
She said the clubs were deserved to receive the money.
“I’m really pleased to be in Ararat this morning to announce these funds for two great local organisations,” she said.
“Our government is giving Victoria’s shooting clubs the support they need to provide safe, modern facilities for thousands of locals who love the sport.
“These two grants – totalling $17,000 - will mean the clubs will be able to boost participation and better accommodate people of all abilities.”
Ms Green said the state was producing some of Australia’s top shooting talent.
“Victoria has produced some of shooting’s great stars, including Russell Mark and Deserie Baynes and just recently, Mansfield’s Catherine Skinner won gold at the Rio Olympic Games,” she said.
“Ararat Clay Target Club and Ararat and Stawell Field and Game are two great local institutions that sit at the heart of the community and we’re thrilled to be giving them the upgrades they deserve.
“Shooting clubs aren’t just a great place for people to gather, they’re where people learn about the safe and responsible use of firearms.”
The two clubs are among 74 across the state to benefit from the $3 million Shooting Sports Facilities Grants Program.
Ms Green said the money would provide better clubrooms for the clay target club.
“They have improved disabled access as well with the pathways.
“Because you never know when you will see an Olympian out of one of these clubs.”
