Premier Daniel Andrews opened the tender process for Victoria Police’s technology revolution on Wendesday.
In the 2016-17 budget the government pledged to provide a suite of handheld reporting devices to front line offices during a four-year roll out.
The third stage off the roll out would see front-line officers equipped with body-worn cameras.
Mr Margetts said it was not yet known when the technology would reach the Wimmera, but the trials and eventual roll outs were exciting.
“Mobile technology would help significantly,” he said.
“It means our front line members would be more efficient.
“At the present time officers complete paper-based documents in the field and then come back to the station, where they have to create electronic versions and do data entry.”
Mr Margetts said the introduction of body-worn cameras to capture events in real time, would assist in keeping officers safe.
