The Kaniva College Year 11 and 12 teacher, 39, will take part in the August 14 festival for the seventh year and said he aimed to finish at the top, ahead of event ambassador Cornes.
“Ever since I’ve done it I’ve wanted to get on top of that podium, yet I haven’t been able to reach it,” David said. “I’ve noticed Kane’s looking pretty strong though.”
He managed his first 2nd place in 2009 in a time of 2:47:30 and then again in 2011 in a time of 2:39:50.
David struggled early on this year with a burst appendix, setting his Adelaide Marathon Festival training back significantly. He has built his strength again this year by adapting to a training program consisting of slower shorter runs and faster runs.
He managed to finish first at this year’s Jacob’s Creek Barossa Marathon in 02:42:22. Fellow Kaniva runner Brett Jewell will also be running the marathon.
Other runners attending the event will be able to challenge world marathon great, four-time Olympian Steve Moneghetti and Channel 7 reporters Rosanna Mangiarelli and Mark Soderstrom.
The Adelaide Marathon Festival is coordinated by the SA Road Runners Club and will also feature the SARRC 10km event and the Little Heroes Foundation 2km Family Fun Run.
Moneghetti said SARRC events always cater to a diverse athletic abilities and said it’s also great seeing rural entrants at events like Adelaide. “It’s always nice to provide options for everyone to participate and it acts as an entry point for families,” Steve said. “It’s especially (good) with the finish being on the iconic Adelaide Oval…this makes everyone feel like they are a winner.”
Entries for the Athlete’s Foot Adelaide Marathon Festival close August 12, at noon. Register at www.adelaidemarathon.com.au.
