THE National Disability Insurance Scheme has officially begun it’s Victoria roll out on Friday.

National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) chairman Bruce Bonyhady said the gradual introduction starts in North East Melbourne and will reach Wimmera in October 2017.

He said by 2019 NDIS would operate state-wide. 

“This is a historic day for people with disability and the broader Victorian community,” Mr Bonyhady said.

“Today we move away from the old one-size-fits-all approach to a new approach which is based on choice and control for people with disability on a scale not seen anywhere in the world.

“The NDIS is the most significant social and economic reform in a generation and from today, it will begin to be rolled out across Victoria.”

Wimmera residents and organisations have already started to prepare for the new scheme.

Horsham Rural City Council and Wimmera Rural Access have created the Art Matters trial as an art alternative for people to select in their NDIS package.
