Faces of Hindmarsh will profile a different resident every few days on council’s Facebook page.
Mayor Debra Nelson said idea for the campaign was not new, but it was a great way to showcase the shire’s residents.
“It’s more like a borrowed idea – there are other Facebook pages like Humans of New York, and this is a spin off of that,” she said.
“It’s funded by the state government and it is about capturing residents’ photos and stories.
“There are some amazing people in our shire.”
Cr Nelson said she hoped the campaign continued indefinitely
“I don’t think we will run out of stories for a long time,” she said.
Cr Nelson said the campaign kicked off at agricultural shows last year where photos were taken of residents.
She said residents were asked to participate in a photo booth and all the photos were put together in a big collage.
“There are hundreds of faces in there and they are all on display at the Nhill council office,” she said.
”People also bought in their pets and had cute photos taken with their pets.”
Cr Nelson said the project was a good news story.
“It’s something that people always appreciate and it’s a great way to celebrate successes in our communities,” she said.
The first profile went live last week and after 14 hours it had had more than 2000 views.
“It’s been a fantastic response,” Cr Nelson said.
”I think even people who don’t use a computer often would want to go online and have a look.
“It’s giving people their 10 seconds of fame.”
Cr Nelson said council’s Janine Grover was running the project.
“She’s been going around interviewing people and taking photos,” she said.
Cr Nelson said people could call Ms Grover on 0459 020 127 or email jgrover@hindmarsh.vic.gov.au to submit their own stories for the project.
