A $120,000 Department of Health and Human Services grant married up with a $40,000 donation from Royal Flying Doctor Service and $30,000 from Rural Northwest Health will ensure the YCHANGe project has at least 18 months to reverse the obesity trend.
At more than 70 per cent, Yarriambiack Shire has the highest obesity rate in Victoria and the highest consumption of sugar sweetened drinks per resident.
Deakin University research fellow Jill Whelan, who is heading the project, said the money would put YCHANGe well on track to make a difference.
Ms Whelan said the project would ideally need two years to be effective.
