Representatives from AME Systems, Montara Estate Wines and Ararat Meat Exports were among more than 600 delegates representing more than 400 Victorian companies participating in the mission that was led by premier Ted Baillieu - The largest ever to leave Australian shores.

James Stapleton, whose family owns Montara Estate and Ararat Meat Exports, said the trip was a worthwhile experience and provided an opportunity to establish new business connections.

"It was a really good opportunity to spend time with our existing customers and get a grasp around how they do business," he said.

"Seeing that gave us great confidence in them.

"Some of the gala dinners that the Victorian Government put on were really good and we met a broad range of influential people in the business world."

Mr Stapleton attended the week-long trip with his parents and sister Billie.

At a time of national and international economic uncertainty, the Victorian Coalition Government's unique trade mission to China was focused on strengthening relationships, growing trade, attracting investment and creating jobs.

Premier Baillieu said the government vigorously promoted Victoria's great produce, including the region's local products, with food and wine promotional events and wine-tasting master-classes held across major cities in China.

"The Government strongly promoted businesses from the Ararat region," he said.

"Delegates from sectors including manufacturing and premium food and wine production participated. Victorian wines will be served and promoted at wine bars and hotels across China."

Mr Stapleton said the price the Chinese are willing to pay for wine makes it the biggest export market.
